T-strap shoes: In the 1920s, women wore shoes that had a t-strap or a wrap around the ankle with a heel. The strap made it easier for women to walk in or dance. Taylor Swift continues to rock the T-strap shoes, whether she is going for a casual look with a simple black romper or dressing it up with a fancy blue dress. Her T-strap shoes come in all different colors, ranging from black, tan, brown, or even green.
Flapper dress: Taylor loves to wear sparkly dresses that resemble the flapper dress from the Roaring 1920s. The flapper dress is sleeveless with a dropped waistline and often had sequins or fringes on them. The idea of the dress was to appear more boxy and manly, but Taylor certainly does not look that way because of her slim figure. Women wore short bob haircuts in the 1920s; as well as faux bobs for women who did not want to cut off all of their hair. This hairstyle accompanied the manly silhouette of the flapper dress and Taylor loved to complete the 1920s look by wearing her hair pinned up and with bright red lipstick. Whether she is performing or attending a big event, Taylor continues to wear the 1920s inspired look.
Pop Art was very popular during the 1960s. It was a reaction to abstract expressionism and was imagery from popular culture placed on clothing or paintings. The print was either removed from normal context or combined with unrelated material. At the 2013 Victoria Secret Fashion Show, Taylor wears a union-flag print mini dress that resembles Pop Art from the 1960s. The flag print is seen all over her shoes, hat, and the long cape behind her. Taylor is also wearing a top hat, which is inspired by the top hats worn during the Romantic Period, usually by men. The top of the hat is shaped like a cylinder and the brim of the hat was usually small. Taylor seems to really enjoy wearing top hats, as she is seen on magazine covers wearing them and at her concerts. She does a wonderful job of mixing two historical pieces of clothing together.
Sunglasses: Taylor makes a huge fashion statement in her oversized sunglasses that she is always wearing, which are inspired by two different historic periods. She is often seen wearing round circular sunglasses that are inspired by the 1930s, which were often tortoiseshell. She also enjoys wearing oversized sunglasses that resemble the large glasses that women would wear all the time during the 1960s. American princess, Jacqueline Kennedy adored her round sunglasses.
Swimwear: When Taylor is not looking beautiful and stylish at events and concerts, she brings her awesome style and natural look to the beach. Her bathing suits are always adorable with polka dots, stripes, halter necklines, and high wasted bottoms that resemble swimsuits from the 1930s. Women’s swimwear in the 1930s became smaller with cutouts on the sides, halter necklines, monograms on the suit, and designed for no back lines. Taylor always looks fashionable on the beach in her 1930s inspired bathing suits and in her round sunglasses.
Evening Gowns: Taylor has continued to amaze everyone at big events with her gorgeous evening gowns. She really knows how to choose the right dress for her figure. A lot of her dresses are inspired by historical clothing from different time periods. At the Golden Globes, Taylor looked incredible in a silk purple gown that resembled the Mermaid Dress worn during the 1890s. The dress is cinched at the waist and makes Taylor look extremely tiny, which is what women in the 1890s strived for when wearing the dress. At the Grammy Awards, Taylor wore a stunning gold sequin dress that contained many historical elements, such as the 1800s Empire Waistline that was just under the breasts. The empire waistline during the Empire Period was often seen on round gowns and embroidered on muslin with white thread. The gold dress also has a deep V-cut neckline inspired by fashion in the 1920s and a collar around the neck.
